About Us

Department of Basic Sciences was established in 2013 at the inception of the faculty with the aim of laying the foundation of knowledge in the area of Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology and psychology which are essential building blocks of all the Allied Health Sciences Degree programmes. The majority of the academic activities of the first year of all degree programmes offered by the faculty are conducted by the Department of Basic Sciences. Teaching activities of the Department are conducted by highly qualified academic staff who are specialized in specific teaching areas and a panel of visiting lecturers from KDU, other universities and hospitals. The staff of the Department undertakes undergraduate research supervision and visiting lecturer appointments. They are also involved in collaborative research work.
Further, the Department is responsible for conducting selection exams for both day scholar and lateral entries and the conduction of orientation programmes of new intakes. The Department of Basic Sciences organizes the Basic and Applied Sciences [BAS]session of the International Research Conference of KDU and pre-conference workshops.
Thus, the Department contributes for both academic and research activities to develop academically and professionally qualified Allied health Science graduates who are capable of serving the health care sector.
